We hope that you are all are staying safe and well during this difficult time.
We must all pray especially for all our civil leaders, and that they will open their hearts and minds to be guided by Christ the King while fulfilling their civic duties.
During this period of social distancing we ask hat you use this time to read and reflect on the papal encyclical ‘Quas Primas’ by which the feast of Christ the King was instituted –
If princes and magistrates duly elected are filled with the persuasion that they rule, not by their own right, but by the mandate and in the place of the Divine King, they will exercise their authority piously and wisely, and they will make laws and administer them, having in view the common good and also the human dignity of their subjects. The result will be a stable peace and tranquillity, for there will be no longer any cause of discontent. Men will see in their king or in their rulers men like themselves, perhaps unworthy or open to criticism, but they will not on that account refuse obedience if they see reflected in them the authority of Christ God and Man.
The Christus Rex Society recognises that, especially in light of current events, the need for the Christus Rex Pilgrimage is greater than ever. As such, the Society remains committed to doing everything it can to ensure that the 2020 Christus Rex Pilgrimage will proceed on 23-25 October 2020.
Like you, we do not yet know what restrictions on travel and gatherings may still be imposed in October 2020 by the State and Federal governments, local Councils, and not least of all by the Melbourne, Ballarat and Sandhurst Dioceses. Nevertheless, we will continue to make all possible arrangements over the coming months so that all things are prepared in readiness for if and when the present restrictions are relaxed.
Ordinarily, the Society aims to open registrations for the Pilgrimage on or about Pentecost Sunday (31 May 2020). Because of the current level of restrictions that are still in place, we have decided to temporarily postpone opening registrations until we have a better understanding of how the Pilgrimage will be able to proceed. This is because some changes may be required to adapt the Pilgrimage to whatever restrictions may be in place.
We ask that you to continue to reserve the dates for the Pilgrimage (23-25 October) and make any necessary arrangements for travel and accommodation to avoid disappointment.
Please register your interest so that we can keep you updated as matters progress. Please keep us in your prayers, as we will you in ours.
