Bendigo City

The city of Bendigo marks the final destination of the Christus Rex Pilgrimage—a place of welcome, celebration, and solemn worship. After walking 90km in prayer and penance, pilgrims enter the city on Sunday afternoon, ascending its broad main street toward the towering spires of Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Once a booming gold rush town, Bendigo today remains a regional jewel, steeped in heritage and crowned by one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the Southern Hemisphere. As pilgrims walk through its historic heart, they are joined by locals and onlookers, offering a public witness to Christ the King in a city built on perseverance and faith.
The final procession winds its way up the grand boulevard to the Cathedral steps, where hymns ring out and prayers are offered before the Solemn Mass. This final ascent is more than just a physical climb—it is a spiritual culmination of the journey, lifting hearts and voices in triumph.
Bendigo offers not only a beautiful conclusion to the pilgrimage, but a powerful reminder that Christ’s reign extends to every street, every city, and every soul.
